Memories in a book
11 retratos por 20 contos is a personal project by the author Patrick Mariano. The book presents a collection of 11 portraits shared on his social networks and 20 short stories and poems originally published on his blog. Born in Ilha Solteira (São Paulo), Patrick spent his childhood in a couple of small villages in the countryside of Brazil before moving to Brasília. Literature has always been present in his life as a hobby. Later on he also fell in love with photography and started registering personal moments on social media.
In his work, Patrick proposes a bucolic and poetic view of everyday life to escape from a chaotic reality. At the same time, he calls upon resources of this reality, like the internet, to produce and publish his texts and photos.
This project was featured on the 11th Brazilian Biennial of Graphic Design in the Editorial Design category.

Cover
The lettering title evokes a common play among countryside kids to write with brick and chalk on the asphalt. Printing directly on uncoated craft paper highlights the passage of time reflected in the memories of the author, as the paper fibres deteriorate during when handled, revealing its natural imperfections.

The book
Based on the contrast between sensory memories of childhood and troubled urban daily life, the book is explored as classic and traditional support for literary text, while including typical navigational elements of blogs and social networks at the same time. Its pocket size and cover belt transforms the book in a personal gift that the author offered to his friends.

Launch
To mark such a special milestone in his literary life, the author organised an intimate and informal signing session in a local café in Brasília.
